Hammer Down Athletes of the Week

By S. Samek

It may have been Fall Break for Waynesburg University students, but it wasn’t for the athletes, as sports were very much in session during the hiatus in classes. The following players excelled for their respective teams last week:

Men’s Soccer – James Snyder

Sophomore goalie James Snyder played a strong game in net last Wednesday in a 2-0 win over St. Vincent.

The sophomore keeper stopped all six shots in the last home game for the Jackets on the season.

This marks Snyder’s third shutout of the season, which is ranked fourth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Snyder will defend the net for Waynesburg at Grove City Wednesday, Oct. 26, for a 12:30 p.m. start.

Volleyball – Sydni Ayers

While the volleyball team had a winless week, it was not because of the performances from Sydni Ayers.

The sophomore setter averaged seven assists per set this week, which was the best mark on the team.

For the season, Ayers is averaging just over six assists per set, which ranks fifth in the PAC.

Additionally, Ayers chipped in the team’s second highest digs per set mark this week with just over two.

The team finishes its season Thursday, Oct. 27, against La Roche College.
