As the weather turns colder the season changes from baseball to football. Add to the mix basketball and hockey. With the change in sports season comes additions. Football and basketball made additions. Now it’s the NHL’s turn.
Yep, new wave of hockey themed Funko pops coming at you. Brad Marchand, Brent Burns, Evgeni Malkin, Jeff Carter, Vladimir Tarasenko, Braden Holtby, Corey Crawford, Wayne Simmonds, and Devan Dubnyk suite up in-home sweater. There is also a wave of players from Canadian teams going to Grosnor as exclusives.
These look great as the prior wave is. I just hope it’s easier to find a Malkin pop than it is to find a Sidney Crosby.
The NHL is also getting pint sized heroes. They look cute, but I don’t like the idea. NHL players aren’t really known for being cute so why do it. Pick them up if you want, but the pops are still better. Grosnor will also carry exclusives in these.
Overall really good addition to the sports line. Should only leave MLB without another recent wave. I see that following in spring.

In this post, I talked about how NFL Legends were getting the pop treatment. I also mentioned how I would love to see other sports follow this lead and get pops too.
The NBA is the next sport to join in. Granted they did have a prior wave, but now we see additions for the first time in years.
Kevin Durant headlines with Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas, Karl-Anthony Towns, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Chris Paul, James Harden, Kristaps Porzingis, John Wall, Kawhi Lenard, Anthony Davis, Damián Lillard and Klay Thompson. Demar DeRozan also as a Canadian exclusive at Grosnor.
I’m not a big fan of these. They just look kind of generic and plain. That and I’m not a huge NBA fan. Second, I find it funny that a couple may need new paint jobs after a recent blockbuster deal.
Also, to see no Lonzo Ball. The kid is everywhere and I’m sure any PR he can get he wants. Having another piece of merchandise with himself on it would be a good thing. O well, I can see him being added to the next wave, especially if he has a strong rookie campaign.
If you’re a fan of these players by all means add them to your collection. NBA fans in general should add them to. Outside of those audiences I wouldn’t bother with them. I know I won’t pick them up even on clearance.
Still glad to see Funko expanding with sports pops. Just need to reboot the MLB line to make me really happy.

This may Seem like it belongs on the social blog, but its work here.
Today Funko announced NFL Hall of Famers would become POP figures. 11 players and two coaches receive the Funko treatment.
For players you have Brett Favre, Terry Bradshaw, Deion Sanders, Lawrence Taylor, Dan Marino, Bo Jackson and more. The Coaches are Mike Ditka and Tom Landry. Sander’s also comes with exclusive options only found at Toys r us.
I like how these look a lot. I also like how it extends the NFL line and works well with the current players already in the line.
What I don’t like is how hard these things seem to find. I may find an NFL pop if I’m lucky, but it’s never a Pittsburgh Steeler. I have looked at multiple stores and can’t come away with Antonio Brown, or Big Ben. Only Can Newton and a couple Seahawks to be seen.
I think from the line I’ll pick up Bradshaw and Mike Ditka for the Pittsburgh connection.
The Funko sports line seems to be neglected a bit and this should help. Between this addition and the new NFL wave set to come out it looks like the sports line is starting to return again. Hopefully this leds to more NBA, NHL and MLB pops returning to the line.
Check out the new line here.
