Reynold’s Hits Career Home Run Number 100 as Pirates Defeat Tigers

S. Samek

While it may not be 715, to Bryan Reynold’s Monday night’s solo home run was pretty special. The sixth inning homer was the 100th of Reynold’s career and put the Pirates up 7-2. It was Reynold’s second home run of the season.

Mitch Keller had his best start of the young season pitching six innings giving up two runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out nine. He would also earn the win as the Pirates defeated the Tigers 7-4. The win is the first of the season for Keller as the Pirates improve to 9-2 to start the season.

Newly acquired catcher Joey Bart, Connor Joe and Jared Trilo each had a pair of RBI in the win. This marks the third win in a row for the Pirates.

They play this afternoon at 12:35 pm Est to finish off the two-game set with the Tigers. Martin Perez gets the ball as starting pitcher looking to keep his strong start to the season going.

2023 Pittsburgh Pirates Wrap Up

Another Pirates season is in the books. At 76-86 they finished fourth in their division 16 games back of Milwaukee, who won the Central. They missed the playoffs as well to keep that streak going. Yet the season did have quite a few highlights.

Mitch Keller achieved career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts and was an All-Star. This is a strong step forward for the former top prospect.

Ke ‘Bryan Hayes was named the teams MVP. Hayes had many career highs statistically on his way to the honor. Bryan Reynolds fresh off that big extension led the team in runs scored and runs batted in. Ji Hwan Bae stole 24 bases during his first look at extended action in the Major Leagues to lead the team.

David Bednar finished with a career best 39 saves to go with his All-Star game nod. He was also the Pirates Clemente Award nomination.

Andre McCutcheon had a successful return to Pittsburgh, even if he didn’t quite reach 300 career home runs.

Many top prospects also made their way to Pittsburgh. Plus, with the drafting of Paul Skenes with the number one overall pick Pirates fans saw a glimpse of the near future of this team.

I guess overall the season could have been worse. Though with the strong start it could have been better. I feel pretty optimistic about the Pirates moving forward though.

2021 Pittsburgh Pirates All-Stars

S. Samek

It hasn’t been a great season so far in 2021 for the Pirates. Though their are a couple of bright spots in the form of the all-star games sections. they Pirates will send two representatives to this seasons mid-summer classic.

Adam Frazier was elected as the starter at second base. This is only the second time its happened for Pittsburgh and the last one was Bill Mazeroski. Frazier is hitting about .327 and was voted in ahead of the Braves Ozzie Albies. Which there isnt a doubt Frazier is playing well enough to get elected the starter, maybe just surprising that with the team not playing well he gets left out.

Bryan Reynolds is going to be going to his first all-star game as well as a reserve outfielder. He is having a come back year after an awful 2020 season. It’s good to see and hopefully this keeps the motivation going to keep playing well like his 2018 season.

It’s good to see the individual accomplishments of the Pirates weren’t weighted down by how bad they play as a team. Hopefully they represent the team well during the game as well, so the rest of the league can see their talent.

Reynolds Rookie of the Year Update.

S. Samek

Earlier in the season we saw Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds emerge as a strong candidate for rookie of the year. Well let’s see how he did now that the season is over and the awords are announced.

Reynolds received one second-place vote and six third place votes for a total of nine points. This put him in fourth place.

Which is a tough break. He hit .314 with 16 home runs 68 RBI while also hitting 37 doubles. It was an impressive season.

Yet the winner had an even better year. Pete Alonso of the Mets won the award. He hit 53 home runs and had 120 RBI in a massive year. The second place winner was Mike Soroka of the Braves, who went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA while making 29 starts. Also finishing ahead of Reynolds was Fernando Tatis Jr, who hit .317 and had 16 steals.

That is a pretty talent group of rookies. I guess it’s just unfortunate timing on Reynolds apart to be in such a class. I just hope h can keep this up and develope into a star player.

Reynolds Looks Like Rookie of the Year Candidate

S. Samek

Well its September and with that comes familiar ground. That is the Pittsburgh Pirates have fallen out of Playoff contention.

However Bryan Reynolds continues to be a spark for the offense and the team.

On September 6th, 2019 despite a 10-7 loss Reynolds had a two-home night. He homered from both sides of the plate and is only the third Pirate to do so ever.

As of this writing, he owns a .331 batting average ,which ranks first on the team. Theres also 16 home runs and 65 RBIS to pair with that. Those numbers rank third and fourth on the Pirates so far.

Reynolds sits second in the NL batting race behind Anthony Rendon of the Nationals who sports a .338 as of this writing.

He also makes plays in the outfield. Just take a look at this catch.

Sadly even with the great production I can see him not being chosen for rookie of the year. Pete Alonso of the Mets has 45 homers so far to led the majors. Alonso is hitting .267 with 107 RBIs in 513 at-bats this season. Should be more then enough to win him the aword even with a lower batting average than Reynolds.

Yet it’s good to see a trade piece actully do something for once. So sit back and watch Reynold’s be the sliver lining to the remainder of a rough Pirates season in 2019.
