2021 MLB Playoff Odds Announced

S.Samek

Pitchers and catchers report today so thats a step in the right direction for baseball season in the MLB. With it we also have a list of the odds for each team to reach the post season this year.

Starting with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have seemed to do nothing but unload talent their odds have been set at 0.4%. That’s the second lowest in the National League and third lowest overall. Not shocking in the least after this off-season.

The two teams lower than the Pirates were the Rockies with a 0.1% shot at the playoffs and the Baltimore Orioles at an impressive 0.0% chance to make the post season. Feels bad if you are a fan of any of these teams.

On the flip side the Dodgers and Yankees with 96 almost 97% and 91% almost 92 % percent odds. Little surprise their both of these teams are always opening up the pocket books to get better.

I think I mostly was just surprised a team would have no shot at the playoffs in something like this. Though it is still early and who knows whats going to happen next. Though for now let’s gear up for some spring training baseball.

Taillon Next to Go

S.Samek

Former number one pick next to leave in off-season trade.

Man this next trade stings a bit. Jameson Taillon is going to the New York Yankees. The second overall pick was trade the 24th of January and was the next piece to go after Josh Bell and Joe Musgrove.

They did receive four prospects, two pitchers, an outfielder and a shortstop. Oh boy another shortstop not like they have so many of those they could have a team of just shortstop prospects. Granted three of those prospects are ranked in the Yankees top 25, which is a pretty good deal for Taillon.

For a second round pick, I don’t quite think he had the numbers you would want to see. However with battles with cancer and injury it can be understood the struggles he had. It still doesn’t lessen the blow of losing a good pitcher, and a good guy. That on top of what just seems to be a selling off of every player of value just really hurts.

They need players that can play at the major league level. Prospects are nice, but at this rate you have to have enough players to field a team. Ones that aren’t just all rookies. Players with marketability that people want to come and see like Bell and Taillon. I just don’t feel like the Pirates have that after all these trades.

Will it get better this season, I doubt it? Is there some kind of plan in place to get better, I’m not sure theres that either. Guess we shall have to see with spring training coming up.

Burlington Sock Puppets

S. Samek

We have out first Minor League baseball rebrand for 2021. The Burlington Royals are now the Burlington Sock puppets.

It’s a goofy name yes, but a much needed change from being named after the team they shared an affiliation with. So on that note I really like it.

I guess it’s also not too much of a stretch from a name like White Sox ,or Red Sox, but is still it’s unique that no other team has it. Though this one does feel a bit more childish than a professional basball player may want to play for so it loses points for that.

I’d say it isn’t the best rebrand, but I don’t think it’s the worst ever. I would be more inclined to buy this hat instead of a Royals one yep. Though it is fun, it is still a bit on the childish side. Though the logo is pretty cool and mixes fun with serious baseball. So Pretty good, probably a b- minus, or B grade.
